Siemon launches new Hybrid TERA® patch cords for use with RJ45 Network Equipment Interfaces

Hybrid TERA to RJ cords allow high-performance category 7A/class FA copper cabling systems to be easily integrated into current network equipment

Siemon announces the next generation of hybrid TERA to RJ patch cords. These new 10Gb/s capable cords feature a standards-recognised TERA interface on one end and a newly redesigned version of Siemon's RJ45-style MC plug on the other. This allows users to install a high-performance category 7A/class FA cabling infrastructure capable of supporting future application speeds of 10Gb/s and beyond and easily use it with their current networking equipment.

"Knowing that future application speeds like 40Gb/s or even 100Gb/s over copper will follow 10GBASE-T, category 7/class FA TERA solutions are clearly the most future-proof option", explained Robert Carlson, Siemon's vice president of global marketing. "But, some have been reluctant to move to category 7A based on fear that the interface is not compatible with current electronics. These TERA to RJ cords eliminate that concern. Customers can implement a category 7A/class FA TERA system now for 10Gb/s performance on RJ equipment, and when the time comes to move beyond 10Gb/s with electronics that utilise a TERA interface, their cabling infrastructure will be ready to go."

Utilising high-quality category 7A stranded cable, the TERA to RJ hybrid patch cords meet or exceed all 10GBASE-T standard requirements, including all alien crosstalk parameters.

These new cords are compatible with standards-based RJ45 outlets and meet FCC68.500 and IEC 60603-7 specifications, ensuring reliability and long-term resistance to humidity-based corrosion, extreme temperatures and airborne contaminants. This 100% transmission-tested patch cord is also compatible with both T568A and T568B wiring schemes, which allows it to accommodate all Ethernet applications.

The cords utilise Siemon's new RJ45 MC plugs, which offer a unique colour-coding clip feature. Available in a variety of colours, these snap on clips can be added or removed while the plug is inserted or disengaged, allowing greater flexibility in patch field identification and management. The MC plugs also offer an ultra-slim boot, allowing tight side-stackability in high density patching environments such as blade servers. The boot provides an integrated "cantilevered" latch protection feature that not only limits snagging when removing cords, but also allows the latch to be operated from further back on the plug. This allows easier installation and removal of the cords in high-density switches.
